Child Psychologist Calgary

Our Child Psychologists Are Here To Help You And Your Child

A child struggling with behavioural issues, developmental setbacks, or any other psychological concerns can lead to feelings of distress, fatigue, and hopelessness for parents. Children and youth may struggle with adapting to and coping with situations such as divorce, adoption, communication difficulties, peer pressure, sibling rivalry, bullying, learning disorders, peer relationships, traumatic experiences, and sexual issues. The child psychologists at Supporting Wellness have extensive experience and training in child and adolescent development along with other specialized therapies that help us deliver comprehensive and effective services. Growing up in today’s society is not easy; several new technologies, ideologies, and perspectives have arisen in recent years that make navigating the complexities of childhood and adolescence even more difficult. A child psychologist in Calgary can help youth manage various aspects of their lives, including familial dynamics, social development, and the onslaught of technology and social media.

Child and Adolescent Counselling And Therapy Can Help

How Therapy Can Help Your Child

If your child begins to exhibit any signs of emotional distress, mood swings, behavioural changes, or even physical symptoms such as headaches, nightmares, self-harm and lack of concentration, they may be dealing with a psychological challenge and need professional counselling and care. The approach to counselling in Calgary is different for children and adolescents than it is for adults because they think and react in different ways. Young children tend to benefit from an approach that focuses on art, play, and developmental models. A Calgary child psychologist may take advantage of art and play therapy for kids that utilizes non-verbal communication and allows children to express themselves and use their imaginations in ways that make sense to them. Adolescents, on the other hand, often remedy their struggles best through practical, strength-based, and behavioural therapies. The first step in helping your children work through the challenges they face is getting to the root of the issue. Once we know where the pain and anxiety are coming from, we can effectively develop a plan to guide youth away from the edge in a gentle, open, and friendly environment.
