A child struggling with behavioural issues, developmental setbacks, or other psychological concerns can lead to feelings of distress, fatigue, and hopelessness for parents. Children and youth may struggle with adapting to and coping with complex situations such as divorce, adoption, communication difficulties, peer pressure, sibling rivalry, bullying, learning disorders, and traumatic experiences.
The child psychologists at Supporting Wellness have extensive experience and training in child and adolescent development. Growing up in today's society is not easy. Several new technologies, ideologies, and perspectives have arisen in recent years that make navigating the complexities of childhood and adolescence even more difficult. A dedicated child psychologist in Red Deer can help youth manage various aspects of their lives, including familial dynamics, social development, and the overwhelming nature of technology and social media.
If your child begins to exhibit any signs of emotional distress, mood swings, behavioural changes, or physical symptoms such as headaches, nightmares, self-harm, and a lack of concentration, they may be dealing with a psychological challenge and need professional counselling and care.
The approach to child counselling is vastly different from adult therapy because growing minds think, process, and react in unique ways.
Therapy for Young Children Younger children tend to benefit from an approach that focuses on art, play, and developmental models. A Red Deer child psychologist may utilize art and play therapy, which leverages non-verbal communication. This allows children to express themselves and use their imaginations in a safe way that makes sense to them.
Counselling for Adolescents Adolescents and teenagers often remedy their struggles best through practical, strength-based, and behavioural therapies that respect their growing independence while providing structured support.
