Trish Guise | Divorce Specialist | Pre-Mediation Divorce Coach™ | New Ways for Families® Coach
Divorce & Family Counselling
Trish Guise, MBA, PMDC™ is a trauma-informed Divorce & Pre-Mediation Coach, with a focus on those experiencing coercive control and/or post-separation abuse. Trish uses her personal experience with coercive control and post-separation abuse to help others advocate for themselves and their children during the divorce process.
Trish founded her divorce coaching practice after surviving years of coercive control followed by twelve years of post-separation abuse. Trish has gone on to study and work with many esteemed experts in family law, coercive control, high conflict communication, and post-separation abuse. Having first-hand experience with the devastation that coercive control can have on the entire family, Trish is an active supporter of all legislation that aims to protect victims from coercive control. Trish provided testimony to Connecticut Congress for the institution of Jennifer's Law and is actively advocating for the approval of Bill C-233 “Kiera’s Law” in Canada which will mandate domestic abuse and coercive control training for all Canadian judges.
As a Divorce & Pre-Mediation Coach, Trish guides people through each stage of the divorce process while keeping them focused on protecting their children from the conflict that can arise between the parents. Trish supports clients with safe exit plans, issue assessment, document preparation, mediation preparation, communication with their lawyer, communication with their ex, recognizing/managing power imbalances and advocating for their children’s relationship with both parents, unless neglect or abuse is present.
Along with a group of family lawyers, Trish has co-authored Separating in Alberta with Resolve, a guidebook for people who choose to self-represent (currently in editing, coming soon). Trish is a co-contributor to #1 Amazon best seller Women of Inspiration™ - Women Driving Change. She hosts her own radio show (and soon-to-be podcast), Sh*t I Learned from my Divorce and is a frequent podcast guest. Trish is a contributor to Canada Divorce Magazine , Community Now!, Contemporary Family Magazine, Huff Post, Thrive Global and is an Expert Panel Member for MomJunction - A Community for Moms.
In 2021 Trish was awarded the UWN™️ Advocate & Catalyst for Change Award for her advocacy work with victims of coercive control and her efforts to create a substantive mindset change amongst professionals in the family law system and society as a whole. Trish’s leadership in her field was featured in the UWN™️ “Driving Change – Women Seen, Heard, Valued “which involved semi-trailer trucks wrapped with the faces of various leaders from across the country traveling throughout North America as a moving billboard campaign
