Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Is a Manageable Disorder
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is characterized by unrelenting, reoccurring, intrusive thoughts (obsessions) that may be frightening or seem out of character, and repetitive actions (compulsions) that feel difficult to resist and may or may not seem reasonable. OCD can be time-consuming, and debilitating, cause negative emotions like anxiety and fear, and lead to distrusting oneself. At Supporting Wellness, we offer evidence-based therapies for OCD, exposure and response prevention (ERP), and inference-based cognitive behavioural therapy (I-CBT), in which we help our clients to choose the treatment that fits them best. Disorders related to OCD such as body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) and body-focused repetitive behaviours (BFRBs; skin picking [excoriation] and trichotillomania [hair pulling]) can also be treated.
